WoW Warlock Basics Guide

This WoW warlock guide should point you in the right direction when you are starting out as a warlock. Warlocks are best known for their shadow magic and fire magic spells and especially for the ability to conjure and command minions. Casting dark spells of pain and suffering are a warlock’s stock in trade. They can inflict massive spell damage from a distance but are not often in the middle of things due to their low armor class. Many of a warlock’s spells use soul shards which have to be collected from slain enemies. Warlocks are quite possibly the fastest leveling class especially when playing solo. When raiding with a party, warlocks can do massive quantities of damage and need to be careful not to pull aggro off of the tank.

Permissible races for the warlock class are restricted to Blood Elves, Gnomes, Humans, Orcs, and Undead. Warlocks are only allowed to wear cloth armor, not unlike many of the other casting classes. As far as weapons go, warlocks are limited to only using daggers, staves, some swords, and wands.

The most well known power of the warlock is demon summoning (including the Imp, Voidwalker, Succubus, Felhunter, Infernal, Doomguard, and Felguard). Every minion has their role with both pluses and minuses. Warlocks have a wide array of spells at their disposal including DoT’s, direct damage spells, and some useful utility spells. They can even conjure up various items and perform resurrections on dead players by using soul shards. They also possess a minor self healing ability via drain life, and some crowd control talents ,too. Since warlocks are able to acquire mounts through quests, they save bucket loads of gold that the other characters need to spend.

Affliction talents are meant to bolster the warlock’s curses, damage over time spells, and drains. This spec is good for farming, boss killing, and raiding. This is commonly accepted as being the best leveling spec for the warlock class.

The Demonology talent tree uses talents that are meant to make summoned demonic minions more powerful and more useful, as well as enhancing conjuring spells and giving you better passive bonuses. The Demonology spec is really useful for PvP and overall survivability. It can also be good when leveling, though it isn’t quite as efficient as Affliction. You will be extremely dependant on your demons when using this spec.

The Destruction spec uses talents that increase the effectiveness of the warlock’s fire and shadow spells, which are mainly direct damage spells used to quickly kill one enemy. This talent tree is cumbersome to use effectively at lower levels so it is most often played once players get to higher levels. Note that Destruction is not good for solo play. Also, keep in mind that it suffers from poor mana efficiency and has a heavy reliance on farming soul shards. However, it is very cool watching health bars go to zero at lightning speed.
