Rogues are one of 10 classes you can choose from in WoW. While wielding melee weapons a Rogue can deal massive amounts of damage with special attacks and other moves. A Rogue has to spend Energy in order to make these attacks. The Energy meter of the Rogue can be found near the health bar of the Rogue and it shows you how much Energy you have. Rogues can have a maximum of 100 Energy if you do not count in the talent points and the Energy recovers in time.
As an Alliance players you will be able to make a Gnome, Dwarf, Human and Night Elf Rogue and as a Horde player you will be able to choose between the Orc, Troll, Blood Elf and Undead races. A Rogue is commonly known for his skills to ‘gank’ other players, which basically means killing players of the other factions on either the battlegrounds or in the arena’s or in PvP areas. Most of the times the Rogues have the advantage of surprise attacks because they are able to stealth. When a Rogue is stealthed he has several abilities at his disposal which can only be used when stealthed and once he makes his move he will unstealth and get several new moves he can make. The Rogue’s attacks usually award him with combo points which are applied on their target. In total you can place five combo points on a target. Besides the attacks that award combo points Rogues also have access to several finishing moves which do more damage, stun longer etc. when the target has more combo points on it. The more combo points you have, the stronger the finishing moves.
Let it be clear that Rogues can’t heal and can’t tank. When you do decide to play a Rogue however you can top damage meters with a bit of dedications. If you want to be on top of the damage list you should know the class well. This means that you must know all the attacks, good talent trees, the best attack rotations, which gear you should chase, which professions you should level and more. Probably the most important aspects are the talent trees. Subtlety, Assassination, and Combat are the names of the three talent trees that are available for the Rogue. If you are leveling a Rogue you should choose the Combat talent tree. The Combat talent tree will provide the Rogue with talents which make him harder to kill and he will also obtain attacks that will boost his damage like Ghost Strike. With a decent amount of Dodge and Parry rating, an increased amount of damage from the offhand which normally does 50% of the normal weapon damage, a higher hit percentage and a lot of other useful talents you will find leveling an easy journey.
As you gain levels, and especially when you reach the level cap, the Assassination tree becomes a more viable option. The Assassination tree specializes in Backstab and other powerful attacks. For those of you who like to play PvE it is a great build that especially focuses on the Backstab attack. Most talents are based on attacking from behind which makes it less good for soloing.
If you have an enemy that is turned towards the tank however, you can attack the target from behind and spam your attacks to make amazing amounts of damage. Finally there is the Subtlety tree which is normally chosen by people that enjoy playing PvP. With it you will get access to talents that will allow you to do a lot of burst damage. Because you will want to do damage for longer fights in PvE this talent tree is really meant for PvP players.
