Copy Pc Games – Backup Copy or Piracy?
With todays technology, making a copy of a PC game is pretty simple.
Doing a general search on the internet will produce many applications that will allow you to copy almost any PC game.
Making a personal “backup copy” of a game is not illegal in most countries, distributing copies is.
So, with rampant piracy in our ever growing software world, how are they protected?
Most games now require an “online registration” similar to Windows Vista. Once you register, no one else can register that copy of the game. This prevents you from “distributing” copies of your PC game.
This means that the gaming software industry has met one of its “anti-piracy” goals.
What if you don’t register? Newer games, such as Grand Theft Auto IV, will not allow you to complete the installation without registering. Besides that, once someone registers one of the copies, the rest would not work anyway.
If you frequent the P2P networks, you will probably find a hundred different downloadable “cracks” for any game. Ninety-nine of those “cracks” will be viruses. By the time you find one that actually works, your PC will have so many virus infections, you will probably not be able to run the game.
The “tools” for making copies are readily available, and if you use them wisely, they can be helpful. Most times making a backup copy of your PC game is not illegal. Selling that copy, or even giving it away, usually is illegal.
