How has guitar hero effected the music industry
Posted by admin in Uncategorized on July 28th, 2009
Ever since the release of the first game, the Guitar Hero games have taken the world by storm, seeing a spin off franchise Rock band, clothing, toy figures and its own line of plastic Gibson and Fender guitars. But has the game helped the music industry, or hindered it?
The charges:
- Less people are picking up Guitar Hero rather than real instruments. While some people have no interest in playing with six strings and stick to their plastic buttons, it has also gotten some people to actually start learning the instruments for themselves. So people who had never given a second thought to picking up a musical instrument are now doing just that. With some ‘musos’ saying it is stopping people playing guitar might as well claim that about all video games.
- It doesnt compare to actually playing onstage. It could well be the closest thing for some people to getting up onstage. Like all video games, it puts the player in situation where they can live out different lives as ninjas, footballers and now, rock stars. Sure, Guitar hero players might never know the joy of rocking out with guitars onstage, but then, thats there loss.
- It will damage the music industry. One of the first charges was that companies were worried that music sales would go down, if anything its been the opposite. Its exposing players to music they may not have heard before, and giving bands more exposure. The new game –Metallica, will see the band go out to a market of video game players who may not have heard the band before. Metallica isnt the only one to do this, as AC/DC and Aerosmith have done the same, with Van Halen set to follow suit sometime this year.
After real Electric guitars? See these people.
